An Update from Evens & Karina Paul

What a year 2020 has been! We've had difficulties with hurricanes in Haiti and the Covid-19 crisis situation. But we've also had a wonderful year full of blessings with new opportunities and partnerships that we've developed over the year for which will be benefit the people of La Victoire, Haiti.
Despite all that we have been through the year with the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, we experienced the hands of God at work in Haiti each and every day upon our family’s life, the ministry and those we serve in the ground of Haiti. As Psalm 23:4 reminds us, God has been and continues to secure our friends and family while we are navigating this dark moment in the history of our lives.

Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. -Psalm 23:4

We have been praying for you all. Now is the time when we joyously look back and celebrate milestones and accomplishments in the year within our ministry in LaVictoire, Haiti, because of the support of all of you friends and sponsors and through the continuing guidance and blessing of our Lord Jesus Christ:

Medical Clinic

We have finished construction on the walls, roof, rough electric and plumbing. With your continued donations and support, we hope to finish the inside of this clinic in the early Spring of 2021. All we need is electrical fixtures, doors, windows, tile, paint and furnishings and be ready to receive patients and medical teams in our completed medical Clinic by May 2021.

Storehouse Haiti Church

In partnership with Storehouse Church of Chicago, we have finished the floor for the church. Before, we always had to worry about dust getting kicked up during the worship service! Plumbing and electricity pipes were also installed in our church building. With Storehouse’s continued support, we plan to finish the church construction by painting, decorating the rest of the building. We always want to make sure that it is a welcoming place where people gather often to worship our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. We are thankful for this partnership with Storehouse Chicago and we are looking to have our brothers and sisters in Storehouse Haiti in the 2021 if God allows.

Campus Electricity

In partnership with Valparaiso University and a family of one of our members, we are upgrading our electrical system to power our new Medical Clinic and Mission House. This means installing an inverter system and solar panels at a cost of nearly $90,000. Unfortunately, the system hasn't been able to be installed yet due to the Covid-19 pandemic. But it's just a matter of time!
We also developed a wonderful partnership with a group of friends and organization - Engineers For Hope in Washington, D.C. - where we will be able to power our Community Center. This is where the Storehouse Church and the Primary School are located. With this, we'll be able to have youth camp gatherings, children and adult camps gatherings in the coming year of the 2021.
Engineers For Hope, developed with the University of Mines in Denver, will also help us power bigger gatherings at our Camping Center. These systems are scheduled to be in-place by Spring 2021. At that point, our computer lab and wells we have on-campus will all be powered with solar energy.

Microloan Program

COVID-19 has had a clearly negative impact on economic opportunities in Haiti. But we've partnered with Covenant World Relief and other amazing partners - Storehouse Church of Chicago, Engineers For Hope, and New Community Covenant Church of Kansas - to start a microloan program. So far, this program has provided funds to seventy (70) families in need to restart their family business. We also provide training for these wonderful small businesswomen on micro-finances and business management which give them more skills and capability to do well in their business.

Employment Initiatives

With all the work being done on SAI Ministry Grounds, we've been able to employ a number of people to help us get these projects done! During 2020, more than 500 people in the community of La Victoire were able to work on construction projects, farming and other areas where we had job opportunities. Haiti continues to be empowered by our programs on the ground in the field of Education, Sustainable Agricultural programs, Micro-Loans project, Health care and Clean water. Coupled with our church plant and Evangelism for the La Victoire community, families are being given opportunities to sustain their livelihood and build spiritual growth.

Schools & Education

More than 400 students who did not have previous access to education have been able to receive comprehensive education in pre-K through high school. Our schools operate professionally where we have received our government licenses to function, and students are passing their educational benchmarks and independent testing requirements. Upon graduation, they're equipped to move forward with college education to prepare for a career.
This year we are building on a program to help our students succeed after graduating in High School where we will be able to sponsor some of them to attend University level. So far, we have eight students who are in this program and 2 of them have already graduated and returned to serve with us in the mission field. What a blessing they've been!

Looking Forward to 2021

As we now turn our focus to 2021, we need your help to continue the mission God has called us to fulfill. As you pray and consider your 2020 year-end giving and monthly giving into 2021, please include these SAI needs in your prayers.

$20,000 for the construction of a new, permanent High School building. Fund provided will be put towards cement blocks, concrete, roofing materials & labor.

$6,000 of funding to keep our primary and high schools open into 2021. Fund provide jobs for teachers as well as school supplies. Monthly giving is a huge help here for budgeting!

Funds and/or vehicle donations for vehicle upgrades. Our two Ministry vehicles have served us well but Haiti's roads are tough on cars.

Supplies for new Medical Clinic. Funds would be used to purchase dental chairs, bedding materials, and other medical supplies needed to fully furnish our Clinic.

In addition to these specific initiatives for 2021, we always have ministry operating expenses to take care of. Importing supplies and vehicles comes at a cost due to customs duties placed on these items. An unfortunate reality of Haiti is that these duties can be expensive and unpredictable.
Finally, we always encourage monthly supporters of SAI. We've been incredibly blessed in the last 9 years to be able to meet almost all of our Ministry goals through your generous giving to specific projects. Speaking honestly, monthly support helps us meet our monthly Ministry needs without having to scramble. Would you partner with us on a monthly basis?

Thank You For Your Support

By working together, we will continue to spread the Gospel and create opportunities for our Haitian sisters and brothers in Christ who are in need. If you feel that God has placed it in your heart to support our work, whether that be through donating to fund our ongoing work, sponsoring a child in our schools, filling one of our open volunteer positions or going on a mission trip, we ask that you act at this time so SAI can start strong in 2021 and continue to change the trajectory of the community of LaVictoire.
I want to once again thank each of you for your prayers support. We wish each of you many blessings for a Merry Christmas, and a Happy and Healthy New Year! Please continue to keep in your prayers for all aspect of SAI’s Ministries, that we continue in God’s will and guidance for his glory.
May God Bless You All this Season!
Evens & Karina Paul
