Our Story

A brief history of SAI...
Sustainable Action International was founded by Evens & Karina Paul in 2010 to address the real, physical and spiritual needs in La Victoire, the community in Haiti where Evens had grown up. While there are many organizations in Haiti to help meet people's basic needs, Evens & Karina had a vision to build a ministry that would empower people to self-sufficiency and self-dependency. Getting access to clean water, a consistent food supply, medical care, and education for children were the areas needing immediate attention.
Over the last 15 years, SAI and her supporters have built a self-sustaining ministry that is meeting the physical and spiritual needs of the La Victoire community every single day. These initiatives included:
-
Construction of ministry grounds to serve as the hub for SAI's efforts
-
Building water wells to provide the community ready access to clean water
-
Installing solar generated power to lessen the community's need to rely on expensive oil & gas to meet energy needs
-
Planting a church to serve as a place to learn God's Word and worship Him
-
Launching an elementary and high school, which currently serves more than 300 students
-
Starting Hope Farm, which provides the community with a steady supply of food staples and work opportunities
-
Opening a medical center, which provides basic medical and dental care to adults and children alike

About Haiti
The Facts
Haiti is the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere and currently ranks #169 out of 189 countries on the World Bank's list. Literacy rates are 61%. Child mortality rates are 10 times higher than the United States.
The Opportunity
We didn't choose our Ministry name by accident. We're dedicated to helping create a SUSTAINABLE future for the people of La Victoire, Haiti. Creating a sustainable supply of basic necessities such as food and water is one of the most important things we do. But our biggest impact is on delivering a high quality education to children, sustainable agricultural economic opportunities, and soon, a steady source of basic healthcare.

SAI Missionary Team

Evens & Karina Paul
Evens and Karina founded SAI in March 2010 with a vision to bring hope to the people of Evens' home country, Haiti. As the hands and feet of Christ, SAI is committed to helping the La Victoire community create sustainable programs covering basic needs and economic opportunity.
Evens and Karina moved to Haiti full-time in 2018 but still travel back to the U.S. often to update SAI supporters of the mission's progress. They have two young daughters, Abbey and Hannah, who have taken quite well to living in Haiti!
